Method/Process
The Creation of Someone You Loved
In the final 4-hour session dedicated to writing songs for his upcoming album, it was 5 minutes before he called it a day that the melody for Someone You Loved was created
Capaldi gravitates towards writing breakup songs or telling stories about loss
With that final brainstorming session, Capaldi's writer’s block evaporated, and he finished Someone You Loved three weeks after, earning it a spot on the Breach EP
Personal Favorites
Someone You Loved
“Now the day bleeds into nightfall”
o My interpretation: sunset imagery
o Capaldi’s: Losing a sense of time, staying up or waking up early and nothing works
‘Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved’
Strong metaphors: Now the day bleeds into nightfall, Then you pulled the rug
Rhymes
ABAB Scheme
Bleeds & here (slant)
Nightfall & all (end)
Rug & loved (slant)

Before You Go
Before You Go is like the last letter to someone, if you could say one last thing to them before they go. The title is as casual as asking a parent/friend for something before they go out for example
“I fell by the wayside like everyone else
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you
But I was just kidding myself”
Else & self: slant rhyme
These lines represent the initial hatred/disbelief that people feel at first when a loved one takes their own life
‘Like troubled water running cold’
‘If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather’
The song has a lot of metaphors/comparisons relating to nature/weather, implying that they affect our mood
The lyrics are emotional and feel personal, it's evidently a grief-filled story
